YAKULT TRIP

On the 16th May 2016, my classmates and I also with Dr Fairolniza visited YAKULT Factory for the Microbiology class. We arrived there about 9.30 a.m. Everyone looked very excited to visit the factory and to know all about YAKULT from the beginning until the packaging. A representative from YAKULT gave some briefing about the cultured drink.

As I got from the briefing YAKULT is a high quality probiotics in the form of a cultured drink. It contains the probiotic bacteria "Lactobacillus casei Shirota" and also know as the "Shirota strain". With over 30 billion live Shirota strain in each bottle, YAKULT has among the highest concentrations of probiotics compared to other probiotic products on the market.

The Shirota strain is scientifically proven to be the strongest strains af beneficial bacteria, and has been shown to benefit human health. It also free of preservatives, colourings and stabilizers, so YAKULT is the right choice for those looking for high quality of probiotics for good health. There are two type of YAKULT; Yakult Ace and Yakult Ace Light.

Yakult Ace is used sucrose while Yakult Ace Light is used fructose which it is less sugar than Yakult ace.

PRINCIPLES OF MICROBIAL ECOLOGY

MICROBIAL ECOLOGY

In this week, Dr Wan take over the class for the PRINCIPLE OF MICROBIAL ECOLOGY topic. For this class, Dr Wan did some activity with us such as sharing information about microbial ecology and create a concept map. Everyone very excited and enjoy the with the activity. I got some new information from others class's members about this topic.

From this class I understand the Principle of Microbial Ecology:
  • The ecology of microorganisms: their relationship with one another and with their environment. It concerns the three major domains of life—Eukaryota, Archaea, and Bacteria—as well as viruses. Microorganisms, by their omnipresence, impact the entire biosphere.

The hierarchy in ecology:

Homeostasis:
  • Dynamic balance of processes, materials and organisms in the ecosystem and biosphere

Role of microbe in ecosystem
  • O2 producer
